KDP Celebrates 15 Young Authors Through the Young Authors Initiative

Kabubbu Development Project (KDP) celebrated a significant milestone in its literacy programme on 28 February with the launch of 15 young authors from Kabubbu Community Primary School and Trust High School. The event marked the successful completion of a year-long journey that saw learners write, edit, and publish their own books through the Young Authors Initiative.

Implemented with support from CLC Kenya through ACABA and Mama Africa Book Box, alongside The Foundation USA, the initiative seeks to nurture a culture of reading, creative writing, and values-based learning among children and young people.

For many of the learners, becoming published authors at such a young age was a life-changing achievement. The programme gave them an opportunity to express their ideas, experiences, and aspirations through literature while building confidence, creativity, and communication skills.

Speaking as the Guest of Honour, Harriet R. Ayebare, Editor at the Daily Monitor, encouraged the young authors to embrace authentic African storytelling and challenged them to use their voices to tell stories that reflect their communities and inspire positive change.

Among the celebrated authors were Lillian Namubiru and Praise Catherine of Kabubbu Community Primary School, whose books demonstrated remarkable imagination and courage. Their achievements reflected the transformative power of literacy in shaping confident young leaders.

The Young Authors Initiative builds on KDP's ongoing investment in literacy and education, including the 2025 Picture Bible programme, which has strengthened reading and storytelling among learners. Through initiatives like these, KDP is creating opportunities for children not only to excel academically but also to become confident communicators, critical thinkers, and future leaders.
